Here’s a short story of a guy in Westwood that decided to shop for a Los Angeles agent based purely on price. He took out a policy for a very low price with an agency in 90012. You might be interested to know, the agent was offering the lowest prices for his 2004 Ford Edge anywhere! Thinking he was getting an marvelous deal, he signed the contract immediately.
To make a long story short, the guy’s wife was driving down South Grand Ave one day and got into a horrible wreck. When it came time to do his claim, the guy was given a major run-around, and when he finally got an agent on the phone, he was gives one line of trash after another. Finally the agent told him that his car was not covered because the policy contract he signed with them stated that his 2004 Ford Edge was only covered for an accident if he was driving (not his wife).
Furious, the individual called the California Dept. of Insurance for help. Sadly though, the State regulators (for CA) could not help him. The reason? The insurance contract he had with this ‘cheap’ company was indeed legal: And since he signed the Los Angeles contract without reading the fine-print he was bound to the contract, no matter how conscienceless it was.
Huh!?!?!! So let this be a lesson: Going with a cheap auto insurer could mean that you are getting a ‘cheap’ policy contract as well, and you might end up losing moneycash in the long-run. So do your homework Angelino, and always practice smart-shopping techniques, thereby avoiding conscienceless insurer agencies.
