Continuing with our next Topic……..
Here’s a short story of a guy in Chandler that decided to shop for a Phoenix agent based purely on price. He took out a policy for a very low price with an agency in 85022. Engagingly enough, the agent was offering the lowest prices for his 2003 Chevy Blazer anywhere! Thinking he was getting an brilliant deal, he signed the contract immediately.
To make a long story short, the guy’s wife was driving down East University Drive one day and got into a horrible wreck. When it came time to do his claim, the guy was given a major run-around, and when he finally got an agent on the phone, he was gives one line of disingenious matter after another. Finally the agent told him that his car was not covered because the policy contract he signed with them stated that his 2003 Chevy Blazer was only covered for an accident if he was driving (not his wife).
Furious, the individual called the Arizona Dept. of Insurance for help. Sadly though, the State regulators (for AZ) could not help him. The reason? The insurance contract he had with this ‘cheap’ company was indeed legal: And since he signed the Phoenix contract without reading the fine-print he was bound to the contract, no matter how exploitative it was.
Doh!! So let this be a lesson: Going with a cheap auto insurer could mean that you are getting a ‘cheap’ policy contract as well, and you might end up losing fundage in the long-run. So do your homework Phoenixian, and always practice smart-shopping techniques, thereby avoiding exploitative insurer agencies.
